This is guidance, not financial advice
The Big Trip Budget gives general information and estimates to help you budget for a long trip. It is not financial, tax, pensions or legal advice, and it isn't a personal recommendation about what you should do with your money, your job, your home or your pension.
The Big Trip Budget is not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Your result and plan are based only on the answers you give and on published prices at the date shown, not on a full review of your circumstances. Prices change, so check costs before you book or commit to anything. For National Insurance, pensions, tax and student loans, check the official guidance on GOV.UK or with your employer or pension provider. If you want advice for your own situation, speak to a regulated financial adviser.
1. About us
The Big Trip Budget is run by Alex Thomson, a sole trader based in the UK. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean Alex Thomson trading as The Big Trip Budget, and "you" means the person using the site or buying a plan.
Email: hello@thebigtripbudget.co.uk
Address: [business address to be added before launch]
2. What we offer
The questionnaire and your headline result (the total to save and your ready-by date) are free.
You can then buy your full plan: a personalised, live online plan built from your answers, which you can adjust and come back to at a private link. Your plan is digital content. It isn't a printed document, a download or a subscription.
3. Who can buy
Plans are for people aged 18 or over with a UK billing address. If you pay with a billing address outside the UK, we won't unlock the plan and we'll refund you in full automatically.
4. Price and payment
The price is shown before you pay and is the total you pay. We are not registered for VAT, so no VAT is charged. Payments are taken securely by Stripe. If you have a discount code, you can enter it at checkout.
Your contract with us starts when your payment is confirmed.
5. Getting your plan
Your plan opens as soon as your payment is confirmed, and we also email you its private link. Anyone with the link can see and change your plan, so please keep it to yourself. If you lose the link, email us from the address you used to buy and we'll send it again.
We'll keep your plan available for at least 3 years from the date you buy it. If we ever have to close the service sooner, we'll email you at least 60 days before.
6. Your right to cancel
For most online purchases you have 14 days to change your mind. For digital content like your plan, that right ends once the plan is unlocked, if you've asked for it straight away and agreed you'll lose the right to cancel. We ask you to confirm both before you pay, and we confirm them in your order email.
This doesn't affect your rights if something is wrong with your plan (see the next section).
7. If something is wrong with your plan
By law, your plan must be as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. If it isn't, email us and we'll fix it. If we can't fix it within a reasonable time, you may be entitled to a full or partial refund. Refunds go back to the card you paid with.
Your plan uses estimates, and real costs will differ. A difference between an estimate and what you actually spend isn't by itself a fault in the plan.
Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights. For more on your rights, contact Citizens Advice.
8. Updates to the plan
We review our cost data from time to time. When we do, your live plan may show updated figures the next time you open it. We may also improve the plan's pages and features. We won't take away the main parts of the plan you paid for.
9. Using the site
Your plan is for your own personal use. Please don't resell it, copy the site or its content for commercial use, try to access plans that aren't yours, or interfere with how the site works. The design, text, code and data compilation on the site belong to us or the people who license them to us.
10. Our responsibility to you
If we break these terms or fail to use reasonable care and skill, we're responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result. Loss or damage is foreseeable if it's obvious it will happen, or if both of us knew it might happen when you bought your plan.
Because the site gives general guidance and estimates (see the box at the top), we're not responsible for decisions you make about your trip, savings, job, home, pension or tax based on it, or for prices that change after the date shown. The site is for personal use, so we're not responsible for any business losses.
We don't exclude or limit our liability where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, and for breaching your legal rights as a consumer.
11. Your information
Our privacy policy explains how we use your information.
12. Complaints
If you're unhappy with anything, email hello@thebigtripbudget.co.uk and we'll reply within 5 working days.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example to reflect changes in the law or in what we offer. The terms that apply to your purchase are the ones shown when you bought.
14. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring legal proceedings in the courts of England and Wales, or, if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in the courts of the country where you live.
